Well they were on email anyway. Some guys in Toledo University, Ohio, USA. Are intersted in doing an article on www.cookingbynumbers.com and the new vodka jelly book for their student paper. If you add gelatine to a vodka and tonic and leave it to set in the fridge, you get an exotic, solid drink with the frozen tonic bubbles captured in the jelly. You can do the same thing with a champagne cocktail- to make the last word in sopphistocated puddings- or a bloody mary. Tom Tuke-HAstings tells you how in his excellent book, the Art of the Vodka Jelly (£5.99, CBN Books).

Happy new year, I hope you had a great one and managed to try a jelly or two. We just had a great piece in the Telegraph (UK) about the book. It was picked as the best small drinks book.

Moscow Mule Vodka Jelly

Here is a shot of my moscow mule vodka jelly, from the book: The Art of The Vodka Jelly. The flavous are stong and the smell is sensational, it is really easy to make, so give it a go.

Ingredients:
800ml Ginger beer
Juice of 3 lemons
100ml Vodka
2 sachets gelatine (14g)
Makes 950ml

Method:
Juice the lemons, strain the pips out and them mix the juice into the ginger beer. Sponge the gelatine in eight tablespoons of the mixture. Melt the sponged gelatine over some simmering water. Mix the vodka in the remainder of the mixture. Then combine this into the molten gelatine, pour into glasses and set. Try setting this in tall vases for added effect.

Vodka jellies are a visual treat. Todays serving sugestion is to build a pyramid of shot glasses with jellies in. They look sensational and it is a great way to have lots of individual servings so people can just tuck in.
